π§ BETA FEATURE - IN DEVELOPMENT
This map is currently in beta testing. Some features may not work as expected, and the map requires additional configuration to function fully. We're actively improving performance and reliability.
π― Our Mission
Jefferson County Fire Wire is a community information service dedicated to providing transparency about emergency response activity across Jefferson County, New York.
We monitor public fire radio frequencies and use AI technology to transcribe and categorize dispatch calls, making this information accessible to residents in an easy-to-understand format.
π‘ 100% Public Data
All incidents shown are sourced from publicly accessible radio transmissions. We do not have any special access to private emergency communications.
πΊοΈ How This Map Works (Beta)
- Real-Time Monitoring: Our system listens to public fire radio traffic 24/7
- AI Transcription: Advanced AI transcribes each dispatch call and extracts key details
- Location Validation: Addresses are verified using Google Maps for accuracy
- Geographic Display: Validated incidents appear on this interactive map
- Privacy Protection: Medical calls and sensitive incidents are automatically filtered out
π Educational Value
This map helps our community:
- Understand emergency service activity patterns in their neighborhood
- Learn about the types of calls fire departments respond to daily
- Appreciate the workload and dedication of our first responders
- Make informed decisions about home safety and fire prevention
βοΈ Our Responsibility
We take our role seriously. This is not a "scanner chaser" site designed to sensationalize emergencies. Instead, we aim to:
- Provide factual, AI-processed incident information
- Respect the privacy of those involved in medical emergencies
- Educate the public about fire safety and emergency services
- Support, not interfere with, first responder operations
β οΈ Important Reminder
Never travel to active emergency scenes. Emergency personnel need clear access, and civilian presence can interfere with lifesaving operations. If you have an emergency, call 911.
π Supporting Our Fire Departments
Jefferson County is served by dedicated volunteer and career firefighters who respond to emergencies around the clock. This map showcases their tireless work protecting our community.
Want to help? Consider supporting your local fire department through volunteer opportunities, donations, or attending community events.
π§ Beta Status & Known Limitations

Current Limitations:
- β±οΈ Slower Loading: Addresses are geocoded in real-time, which can take 20-30 seconds for 100 incidents
- βοΈ Configuration Required: Google Maps API needs additional setup to function optimally
- π Address Accuracy: Some addresses may not geocode correctly or may be approximate
- π Auto-Refresh: Map refreshes every 30 seconds, which triggers re-geocoding
